A Case of Necrotizing Fasciitis

Abstract
A case of necrotizing fasciitis is reported.
A 45-year-old man showed rapidly spreading, ill-defined erythema with bullae followed by ulceration and necrosis along fascial planes on his left thigh. Mimeae species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were cultured from the bulla content and pus respectively, of which the latter revealed resistance to all antibiotics in sensitivity tests.
Histopathological examination showed subepidermal bullae, dilatation of capillaries, acute inflammatory infiltrate composed primarily of neutrophils in the lower dermis and subcutaneous fat, and vasculitis.
In spite of vigorous antibiotic therapy, surgical debridement and drainage, the lesion deteriorated progressively and the patient expired finally about,9 weeks after onset of the disease.
